We've made it to week 10 of Ruckus House on Aux! Shout out to all three of you (especially you, Mom) who read this silly blog. I hope you get as much joy out of this music as I do. I've compiled a playlist (down below) where you can listen to all the Ruckus House on Aux songs. Keep on keepin' on!
“Messy” - Lola Young
Released May 30, 2024
From the sounds of Lola Young’s most recent release “Messy” and the artist’s last few singles, this poor girl is in the most toxic relationship. The 23-year-old Londoner is a very exciting up-and-coming artist who’s actually been around for a couple of years but is just starting to take off in a big way. Fresh off the heels of her debut album, My Mind Wanders and Sometimes Leaves Completely, Young has been releasing single after single building momentum after her viral TikTok moment with her song “Don’t Hate Me.” This girl is a prime example that having a viral moment online doesn’t have to define you as an artist. I see a bright future for this talented singer-songwriter beyond the confines of TikTok stardom.
“Raw I Know I Got It (feat, Shaquille O’Neal)” - DIESEL, NITTI, 1999 WRITE THE FUTURE
Released May 24, 2024
I’ve not had my finger on the pulse of Shaquille O’Neal’s rap career but all that changes today! I don’t really follow the NBA or EDM but have I been living under a rock? Was I supposed to know that Shaq has a music career? My apologies to Mr. Shaq for sleeping. But I’m up now! Oh, I’m up! This pairing with 1999 WRITE THE FUTURE is a perfect foray into more lyrical territory for the former NBA star. I’m sure there’s a basketball-related metaphor I could fit in here somewhere but that’s way over my head. I’ll stick to listening to the music.
“Sexy to Someone” - Clairo
Released May 23, 2024
This should be the first and last time I quote Rolling Stone, but they hit the nail on the head when describing this song as a “summer stunner.” I don’t think there is any better season for this recent release from indie-pop artist Clairo. This song is gorgeously playful and ardent, and is the first and perhaps the only single leading up to her third studio album Charm which comes out July 12.
“U Should Not Be Doing That” - Amyl and The Sniffers
Released May 21, 2024
Oh I am just craving to see these guys live. Sometimes you just want to say “fuck the man” and what better way to do that than by blasting this song everywhere you go? Nothing makes me want to roughhouse and horse around like some irreverent punk rock and Amyl and The Sniffers have me feeling mischievous. I’ll be in LA, “shaking my shit” and I think you SHOULD be doing that too.
“My Idol” - Jordana, Paul Cherry
Released May 10, 2024
We’re rounding out this week’s blog with the unserious and whimsical “My Idol,” a brainchild from the minds of Jordana and Paul Cherry. This song is beautiful and I’d watch a whole movie based on the song’s obsessive and heartbreaking message. It’s the first collaboration for these artists and ostensibly the first independent release for Paul Cherry on his own label “Nature’s Candy.” Give it a listen!
