“SPIKY BOiz” - 1999 WRITE THE FUTURE, Ghostface Killah, Rich Brian, Smino, Surprise Chef
Released February 9, 2024
Someone grab the narcan cuz this shit is dope and we’re hooked. Also, what have I been saying? We’re living in the future, people. It’s fucking exciting. This year is certainly going to be a great year for music and 1999 WRITE THE FUTURE is clearly proving that. The collective includes all your favorite artists. And you don’t even necessarily need to be a rap fan to appreciate each member’s verse on this track. Just sit in the pocket and let it rock. The flows are hot, the beat is hot, the lyrics are hot. That’s it!
“I Inhabit My Life (And It Feels So Good)” - Golden Vessels, Headaches
Released January 25, 2024
Oh this is a pleasant one. If you’re a fan of the Japanese House, you’ll like this track. This is a great example of a song that’s simple but made interesting by unique elements like the sound design. You know when it’s been raining all day and then the sun comes out? That’s kinda how this song feels. Guaranteed to boost your mood. Enjoy!
“Gorilla” - Little Simz
Released December 12, 2022
It’s an oldie but a goodie. The lyrics are playful and boastful, but Little Simz seems to deliver them in a casual way which makes it feel more factual than bumptious. And unlike some other rappers, she’s able to back up the talk. It’s Little Simz so obviously it’s good. Her flow is neat and the beat is…(sorry I’m just gonna say it)…it’s a vibe!
“Chain Heavy” - Kanye West, Consequence, Talib Kweli
Released November 10, 2010
I know I’m always talking about the future yada yada yada, but this song deserves a spot on this list, regardless of the fact that it was released 14 years ago. I was only 10, okay? And yes, Kanye is canceled or whatever but jesus christ people, the man makes good music. You can’t listen to this song and tell me you don’t enjoy it. Well, you can but I don’t believe you. This track, released back in the GOOD Fridays era, has not seen the light of Spotify until now. Thank you, mysterious Spotify user for uploading.
“My Dick” - Mickey Avalon
Released December 5, 2006
As the title suggests, this song is maybe not to be played around your grandmother, your pastor, or anyone else who might have a stick up their ass. But if you’re cool and you have BDE, go ahead and spin it. And if you aren’t cool and you have shrimp dick energy, still go ahead and spin it because this might have the same effects as a literal penis pump. I’m already standing a little taller and have measured myself over 6’1” since I first heard it. Believe it or not.
