“no words 1&2” - WILLOW

Released May 3, 2024

There are no words. That’s both descriptive of the song itself and how I feel about it. This album has been long awaited for us here at Ruckus House. Call me an ass kisser, call me a dick rider, I don’t care. I am a WILLOW stan and I will proclaim it from the rooftops. Every release by this boundary-pushing artist is exciting and unexpected. The Hiatus Kaiyote influence is there but the music still stands apart, not derivative and totally unique in its own right. This instrumental-beatbox fusion track somehow feels personal and a window into the mind of WILLOW the artist as well as WILLOW the individual. My only gripe is it’s too short, but still give it a listen.

“Telescope” - Hiatus Kaiyote

Released May 2, 2024

I’ve never wanted a telescope so bad in my life. Something about Hiatus’ music is so down to earth but this song just goes to show how they can transform you to space at the same time. Who knows if the aliens are communicating to us through this song or if the ‘ouid’ was just really hitting? Either way we are loving this track. Also in case you were wondering, Abell 2744, otherwise known as Pandora’s cluster, is a galaxy cluster located 4 billion light years away. Know your galaxy clusters for Christ’s sake!

“MILLION DOLLAR BABY (VHS)” - Tommy Richman

Released April 26, 2024

Fucking bop. I mean…come on. My introduction to this song was through PULSE Records’ Instagram. And what a win for them. With over 33 million streams on Spotify in a little over a week, it’s clear this song is big. The original sounds clean and I think the VHS version is just the same thing but with some distortion? So there’s a version for the normies and the freaks. I don’t want to say this song was MADE for TikTok but I see some potential there for a viral moment. Give it a spin, just please don’t overplay it and ruin it for me.

“LA’s Got Gorgeous” - Nitefire

Released April 19, 2024

Okay let me just say, I can’t decide if I actually like this song or if I loathe it entirely. For now I like it. As an LA-based (very professional and buttoned-up) publication, we at Ruckus House think this song borders on corny but the campiness is also what makes it awesome. I loved 2005! I love convertibles and the beach, and that’s exactly what this song evokes. Can’t tell if Nitefire are some posers or if they’re the real deal. My eyes are peeled for an LA show though and rest assured we shall report back. For now, open your sunroof and play this on your iPod.

“Returning” - Juice Webster

Released July 6, 2023

Ending this week’s blog post on a mellow and emotional note with Juice Webster’s “Returning.” The music is simple and the melody and rhyme pattern are even childlike in a sense. But the lyrics are absolutely ardent and beautiful. I’ve really been loving melancholy music, songs that you can put on to calm your mind but also to comfort you for a good cry. This song is exactly that. Juice Webster is vulnerable and emotive in a refreshing way with this track. If you don’t feel anything when you listen to this, I fear you may have no heart! You should get that checked out.
